No complicated storyline

Yesterday, I watched the movie Jeff, Who Lives at Home with Jason Segel, Ed Helms, and Susan Sarandon, and I thought it was a very meaningful movie... without a big storyline. My friend, and I realized that you don't need guns, booms, and a very complicated story to create a good movie. Usually, those movies are not that great, because there's too much... everything.

The movie was about destiny. That's all. A broken family, and a day to remember.
Aside from the plot, the way they shot the movie was very interesting. Hand-held camera, so you can feel how the characters feel, and you are in the "action" (that was in quotation marks, because there are no really action in this movie).

I just thought people should know about this film...

Confession: Superhero movies

Yes, there are... // Photo credit: nerdapproved.com
SPOILER ALERT
Yes, I feel bad. I feel SO bad, I want to apologize to you, dear reader. I cannot betray my feelings. Yes, I thought this through, but I have no more regrets and I can now say it loud, and clear: The Avengers is just like any other superhero movies (now, I know someone who's happy about this... you know who you are, and I bow before you).
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching it, and the special effects were top-notch, but some things didn't make sense, at ALL.
The best example I can give you is The Hulk. Yes, the green monster for the people who didn't catch his name. Isn't he suppose to be angry at everybody? Like in EVERYONE, or EVERY HUMAN-BEING? He was attacking Thor, and the Black Widow... but when there's the big fight scene, Dr. Banner can control him now. Is it me or this doesn't make any sense? Huh?
Second problem, the "line delivery" (acting) was a bit... hum... cliché? "From now on... we're (music) at war," or "Oh my God, Loki... Thor's brother!" That's just pathetic. I know it's to situate people on who's who, but the way they put it in the script, and the way the actor said it, it doesn't quite work.
I know everyone I know thought it was a great movie, and I heard so many good things about it... but I was disappointed by it (not Twilight-disappointed, but another kind of let down). The storyline was the same as every other superhero movies. The bad guy comes in, the superhero struggles, something good happens, something bad happens, victory seems unachievable, superhero wins at the end, happy ending. The end.
The only superhero movie I can watch without this storyline is The Dark Knight, and you know it.

CJ Top 5: Worst Movie Ever

My Top 5 here is a tricky one. I love watching movies since I can't remember. It's a passion... but ever since I took film classes, I now can tell a good movie from a bad one. Movie directors can be stupid when it comes to script, action and visual. Bad movie directors concentrate on one of those things, and one thing only, which makes the movie so horrible, I want to throw myself off a bridge (not literally). A good movie needs all of those things, and more. Again, this list is based on movies I saw. If in this world, there are worst movies then the one stated below, I'm sorry: I will go to the video store and rent them to create a new list.
Anyway, here's my CJ Top 5: Worst Movie Ever.

5. Munich
Now, if someone comes to me and say that it was the best movie they ever saw, I shall punch this someone in the face twice and say "It's 2 hours and 44 minutes!" I watched this movie when I was around 12 years old, I thought it was TOO LONG. I lost interest in the film halfway through and I daydreamed for the last half of the movie. Steven, you disappointed me. Even thought the subject of the movie was interesting, I thought it was boring... sorry! This movie is my earliest memory of a bad movie. I might watch it again and maybe change my mind.

4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I was tempted to make this movie my number one, but my Harry Potter BOOKS' fan in me changed her mind. This movie... is probably the worst book adaptation in the history of cinema. My film and culture teacher told me that even thought a movie is boring, or terrible, we should be able to appreciate it. I REALLY tried to appreciate it, but sorry David Yates, but your movie sucks... a lot. The dialogues are weak, weak, weak. The acting doesn't help either. But what pisses me off the most, is that it's the longest book... but the shortest movie in all the seven Harry Potters (for me the seventh and eighth movie are one movie). I tried to watch it and I told myself every time I was going to watch it "Maybe I was too critical... maybe this time it's gonna be good." I always end up watching half of the movie and blame myself for believing that this movie can be good. It's not.
Note for future me: don't watch it.

3. Captain America: The First Avenger
I love superhero movies... but ever since I saw this one, I don't think I do anymore. This movie was so... unrealistic, that I was sad after watching it. It's Captain America for Christ's sake! Yes, when I said (wrote) unrealistic, it's my way to say that there were some moments too darn impossible, it was ridiculous. Let me explain myself: for example, towards the end of the movie, Capt' needs to get on an airplane, which is ready for take-off (AT A GREAT AMOUNT OF SPEED). He's on a jeep, with a guy (I don't recall who) and the girl he's being in love with since he first saw her (cliché). He's about to jump on the plane (still going at I-don't-know-what-speed-but-it's-going-super-fast) and the girl takes his arm... and KISSES him! Wow... what a romantic moment (not).
That's all I have to say... Joe Johnston, you just destroyed my father's favorite superhero.

2. Twilight
You saw that one coming somewhere in the Top 5 didn't you? Yes, Twilight is there. There's so many things wrong with this movie, that I cannot say what is wrong with it. The acting? The special effects? The dialogue (what dialogue... they stare at each other throughout the movie)? The picture? The only thing I want to say is that, when the first one came out, I heard my best friend and my sister talk about it and they say it was an awesome movie. I decided to go watch it at the movies with both of them. Throughout the movie, I was waiting for something to happen. At the end, I said to myself "That's it? I paid $10 for this emotionless movie?" Disappointed you say? I was beyond that. What's worst then disappointed? If you know, tell me, because that's how I felt after the movie. I didn't want to be harsh to my sister and friend, so I said I liked it, because they were looking at me with sparks in their eyes after asking me "SOOOOO? DID YOU LIKE IT?!?!?!?" Now I'm honest... No, this movie was a waste of money and time.

1. Twilight
I wrote my reviews from the fifth place to the first one. After writing the second place... I thought that it deserved the first place too. Twilight is not a good movie and never will be. I have nothing against Twilight's fan or the books, but I did try to read the books... and I got to page 24. That's it. Not my kind of literature... and movie.

(If there are mistakes in this post, sorry, it's 12:00 a.m., and I'm tired... but I had to share this!)

CJ Top 5: Comedy Movies

Let's be honest here, there are a zillion comedy movies, and I have to pick five. F-I-V-E! Cinco! That's the number of fingers in one hand (FYI). Sorry if I don't mention all of them, and this is only movies I saw in 18 years.
(I know y'all going to go to see number 1. Go ahead, but I'm still starting with number 5!)

5. Dumb and Dummer
This movie had to be here somewhere in this list. This is a classic in terms of comedies. If you haven't heard of it that means you live inside a cave, you have to see it! I thought the script was amazing. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels sometimes even improvised their lines and you don't even know it. It's good, it's entertaining, I love it!
One of my favorite quote:
Airport Clerk: Sir, you can't go in there!
Lloyd: It's okay, I'm a limo driver!

4. Superbad
Yes. I know. This might not be the best of all, but I think it's HILARIOUS. Seriously, who didn't laugh? Yes, Michael Cera is, again, playing the awkward teenager. Who cares? He's good at it.
If (again) you didn't see this one, I must warn you, there's a lot of swearing... which makes the film even more awesome!
F word count: 186. (source: IMDB)
One of my favorite quote:
Fogell: Yo guys! Sup?
Seth: Fogell, where have you been, man? You almost gave me a goddamn heart attack. Let me see it. Did you pussy out or what?
Fogell: No noooo, man. I got it! It is flawless. Check it!
Evan: [examining the fake ID] Hawaii. All right, that's good. That's hard to trace, I guess. Wait... you changed your name to... McLovin?
Fogell: Yeah.
Evan: McLovin? What kind of a stupid name is that, Fogell? What, are you trying to be an Irish R&B singer?
Fogell: Naw, they let you pick any name you want when you get down there.
Seth: And you landed on McLovin...
Fogell: Yeah. It was between that or Muhammed.
Seth: Why the f**k would it be between THAT or Muhammed? Why don't you just pick a common name like a normal person?
Fogell: Muhammed is the most commonly used name on Earth. Read a f**king book for once.

3. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
"Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some afternoon delight.
My motto's always been; when it's right, it's right.
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day.
And you know the night is always gonna be there any way.
Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight."
That's it.
One of my favorite quote:
Ron Burgundy: Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast.
Champ Kind: It jumped up a notch.
Ron Burgundy: It did, didn't it?
Brick Tamland: Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.
Ron Burgundy: I saw that. Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?
Brick Tamland: Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.
Ron Burgundy: Brick, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

2. The Hangover
Something crazy. Something new. Something to laugh at until you pee in your pants. That's what the creator of The Hangover looked for when they had the idea to put Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis in a same movie.
I think that without all the swearing, this film would be three cool and relax guys who try to find their friend. SWEARING WAS A KEY IN THIS MOVIE. Dah.
The Hangover, Part II is pretty awesome too. Same structure as the first one, but the humour is darker, i.e. funnier.
One of my favorite quote
Stu Price: [playing piano and singing passionately] What do tigers dream of when they take their little tiger snooze? Do they dream of mauling zebras, or Halle Berry in her Catwoman suit? Don't you worry your pretty striped head, we're gonna get you back to Tyson and your cozy tiger bed. And then we're gonna find our best friend Doug, and then we're gonna give him a best friend hug. Doug, Doug, oh, Doug, Dougie, Dougie, Doug, Doug! But if he's been murdered by crystal meth tweakers... well then we're sh*t out of luck.

1. I Love You, Man
Yes, my heart goes to I Love You, Man. A man trying to make friends. Never heard of this concept before. I have nothing else to say, it's just amazing (AweSoMeeEEE).
One of my favorite quote:
Peter Klaven: I love you, man.
Sydney Fife: I love you, too, bud.
Peter Klaven: I love you, dude.
Sydney Fife: I love you, Bro Montana.
Peter Klaven: I love you, holmes.
Sydney Fife: I love you, Broseph Goebbels.
Peter Klaven: I love you, muchacha.
Sydney Fife: I love you, Tycho Brohe.

Academy Awards 2012 ON THE SPOT

Cool Guy in Gold  // Photo Credit: movieblog.mtv.com

I'm just writing what goes on in my head for the moment after watching the Oscars, but I will surely add some of my thoughts later. This is just my first impressions after:I prepared myself some popcorn for the event where people celebrate one of the most important thing in... well my live: the Academy Awards. I was SO thrilled to see who will win!

Overall, I thought it was a really beautiful ceremony. Although I didn't catch some jokes made by Billy Crystal, I though he surely could handle silences and make people laugh without doing... well, not very much! The decor was absolutely magnificent! The book of music sheets and the screens... WOW! It was beautifully well done.

I. Was. So. Happy. For. Jean DUJARDIN! I LOVE him. I knew him before The Artist, and he can actually act, because he played in several movies where, well, maybe the story wasn't the best story in the world. He played in Brice de Nice, which is one of the most stupid movie I saw in my life*, OSS 117, which I didn't saw entirely, because I just didn't like the humor; I don't know... Maybe I will give it another try!

I was also happy when Meryl Streep received her award. Both my parents were crying because they are big fans of Meryl. I thought her speech was great and really touching. I love her.

I couldn't believe Octavia Spencer won best supporting actress. She was really good in The Help and this award was well deserved. Bravo Octavia!

Also, a big round of applause for Christopher Plummer! He deserved it. He was great in Beginners. I love him, and he lived in the province of Quebec for awhile when he was young so... *Blog Five*

That's all for now. I'm going to bed now. xoxo

*In a good way!

The Official Rules of "Lord of The Rings Drinking Game"

(Note: This game is for the 18+ in Canada and 21+ in USA... well you know guys... these ARE the rules! All credits for this game go to my friend Jill and her siblings.)

Duration time: It depends which The Lord of the Rings you watch or how many The Lord of The Rings you watch.
Number of players: 2 to infinity (not just one... otherwise it's sad.)
Material: You and your friend[s], alcohol (drinks or beers)
(Note: shots are for professional, you'll get drunk too fast and you shall not pass.)

How to play:
Each player gives themselves a name from a character in the movie. If someone call someone else by their real name, they have to drink.

Every time one of these things happen in the film, you have to drink.

1. When Gandalf (the grey or the white) says something wise.
2. When Legolas says something poetic.
3. When there's a joke on dwarves or elves.
4. When Gimli and Legolas compete against one another.
5. When everything is hopeless.
6. When Aragorn says something in elvish.
7. When Merry and Pippin are courageous.
8. When you see the eye of Sauron.
9. When swords are drew.
10. For the courageous: If you quote someone during the movie and you have ALL the words, you choose 3 people and they have to drink. If you miss or exchange some words, for every word missed, you have to drink.
(You can add many more, but try to play with these rules...!)

You can adapt it to other movies. For example, if you watch "Superbad", every time someone says "F*ck", you drink.

Have fun and drink responsibly!

Your beloved crazy journalist. xoxo
